NIVA's mission is to preserve and nurture the ecosystem of independent live music venues and promoters throughout the United States.
Independent venues exist in every state across the country; they were the first to be closed, they will be the last to open. These entertainment hubs are critical to their local economies and tax bases as employers, tourism destinations, and revenue generators for neighboring businesses such as restaurants, hotels, and retail. The economic recovery process will extend past just reopening the front doors, requiring solutions unique to the industry.
According to a survey of NIVA members, 90% of independent venues report they will close permanently in a few months without federal funding. Current PPP funding will not solve the crisis.
NIVA is making a final push to Congress, and there won’t be another opportunity. The #SaveOurStagesAct and the #RestartAct must be passed in order to keep independent venues nationwide from closing permanently. Congress should do the right thing, and pass legislation that will #SaveOurStages. While we wait for Congress, many venues are at risk of closing forever, if they don't get help today.
