Announcing Additional Artists For Riviera Maya

We are excited to announce a very personal and carefully curated line up for each night in Riviera Maya. The following 3 artists will perform before Dave and Tim take the stage.

Thursday 2/23

Aldo López-Gavilán of Cuba

Dave spent time with pianist and composer, Aldo Lopez-Gavilan, during his visit to Cuba last spring. The Seattle Times praised  Aldo for his “dazzling technique and rhythmic fire.” He was exalted as “a terrific composer” by The Washington Post, and dubbed “formidable virtuoso” by The Times of London.  López-Gavilán excels in both the classical and jazz worlds as a recitalist, concerto soloist, chamber-music collaborator, and performer of his own electrifying jazz compositions.

Friday 2/24

Carlos Varela of Cuba

Dave spent time with Carlos during his 2016 visit to Cuba. Carlos Varela is well-known throughout the Latin world, where he is celebrated for his songs that have been likened to the “essence of a generation.”   Uplifting and defiant, at times soothing and at others explosive, Varela is courageously outspoken in the manner of a true revolutionary, albeit one who finds himself in the curious position of being critical of the ongoing revolution in his own country of Cuba.

Saturday 2/25

Vusi Mahlasela of South Africa

Vusi is a long time collaborator and friend of Dave Matthews. Vusi is dubbed “The Voice” of South Africa and his work was an inspiration to many during the anti-apartheid movement.
